Back near the end of 2014 we got a call from our friend Jen Bertrand about doing some work at the new house that was under construction for the Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City near Children’s Mercy Hospital. Jen has always been a huge supporter of ours and we were excited to be asked to be involved in a job that also included her great design work along with more work from http://www.jenniferbertrand.com/://www.jenniferbertrand.com/ Duh from Kaleidoscope in Hallmark.
The project has me working on some digital painting for the front desk and has Alisa doing some of her soft sculpture work on the back wall. The idea was to make a cheerful and inviting space to greet the visitors and hopefully make them smile as they enter the space. The neon work is by neon warrior Thomas Cobain of the Downtown Neon Gallery and warmly reads “Hello Sunshine”. People who generally stay at the house are dealing with challenges of a medical nature and under a lot of stress. One of the goals of the house, Jen, me, Alisa and many others who were involved in making the different spaces is to simply create a warmer atmosphere. I think I even heard Jen say it is like a hug when you enter house.
We honestly hope the work we have done is a help to the family and visitors and are honored once again to be involved in a projects that is part of the healing process. To see more of Jen Bertrands work please visit http://www.jenniferbertrand.com
